Las Posadas Begins
Sign up links will be made available in November.
The Mexican tradition of Las Posadas, meaning “shelter” or “lodging”, lends us an opportunity to practice the welcoming spirit of radical hospitality in a tangible way. Las Posadas is a traditional community enactment of Joseph and Mary’s search for lodging in preparation for the birth of Jesus.
The requirements for participation are simple yet sacred—open your home with a cup of cocoa or tea for a family delivering the statues one evening, care for Joseph and Mary for 24 hours, and deliver them with care and the presence of God’s spirit to the next household, where you will be welcomed with the hospitality that you offered the day before.
A journal of reflection will accompany the statues so that you may share your insights and prayers and reflect on those of others. The statues will fill up with the prayers and spirit of all those caring for them and we will be strengthened by an invisible tie of community with our church family.
